Instructional Design and Online Learning
The Online Learning staff collaborates with many of the university's colleges to offer hybrid and online courses and programs.
The instructional designers for Online Learning work in partnership with faculty and instructors in the design and development of online courses and recommend teaching methods that support and enhance student learning. We provide myriad resources to ensure that the online teaching experience is positive and beneficial to both faculty and students.
If designing and teaching an online course is a new endeavor, faculty are encouraged to sign up for
- QEPO certification program (an introduction to the art & science of course design), and/or
- Canvas Challenge course (an introduction to the Learning Management System, or LMS in which we teach online)
to guide faculty through the development process and prepare them for online teaching. It's important to remember that it's not an all-or-nothing commitment. The best course development is a thoughtful, iterative process that develops the course over a period of time. After the initial launch, the course will require continual shaping and tweaking as interactions with learners and our own reflective practice inform teaching methods and as technology tools evolve. We are excited to collaborate with and support all UAH faculty as we help students in their educational journeys.
